Well, after finishing thank you notes and correspondence and the huge task of putting away sh....., umm, stuff from the last artshow, I have finally gotten a chance to do some serious sculpting.  With just a few evening exceptions I really have not had time to work in clay since I finished The Red Knot Cafe in February.  So it really felt good to dive into this piece.

Earlier this summer I had a couple from Rapid City that were interested in my concept of the kingfisher.  I had started working on it last December, and at that point it was just a glob of mud on a stick.  But with their encouragement in July I spent a couple evenings whipping it into shape and got the roughed out sculpture to the point that I felt comfortable showing it to them.  When I placed it on their pedestal in their home it was love at first sight.  BUT, I had to put off finishing the kingfisher for a little while in order to fill gallery orders and prepare for the Sculpture in the Park show in Loveland.  Once the show was sucessfully behind, I was free to get some real work done.  And, TAA DAAAAAH !! 6 days later on the 19th at about 3:00 am I signed the piece and declared it ready for molding.  That was the fun part, now the work starts LOL.

Ahh well, I will have the molds to the foundry this coming Wednesday and if all goes well (and it will) I will have a brand new Fisher King delivered to my newest patrons, another for the next art show, and some new pictures to show off of the completed work.  Look for the new pics around the middle of October. WHOO HOO !!
